Railpark 1MMp ground-mounted solar plant was inaugurated last Friday in the presence of Federal Minister François Bellot (Mobility, SNCB/NMBS and Belgocontrol), Arlon Mayor Mr Vincent Magnus and Mrs Kristel Galloy, Energy Adviser to Regional Minister Jean-Luc Crucke (Energy, Climate, Finances and Airports).
Minister Bellot, sensible to the energy transition, outlined that Infrabel/SNCB are responsible for about 2% of the national electricity consumption. SNCB/Infrabel have set the 2022 objective of improving their energy consumption efficiency by 5%, compared to 2016. Projects such as Railpark fit perfectly in the long-term green energy strategy of our national railway company.
Mayor Vincent Magnus outlined the full support of his services for the permitting of the project, as well as may energy-efficiency initiatives which are being taken in Arlon, with some partnerships with the city of Luxembourg.
Kristel Galloy outlined the support of Minister Crucke's cabinet for projects such as Railpark. The energy transition is taken very seriously. She also welcomed the particular financing of the project, whereby 29% (300.000€) was raised by citizens through a crowd-lending scheme on www.ecconova.com.
Railpark Industries SA (owner of the land), Perpetum Energy (developer and EPC contractor of the project) and Ecconova (crowd-lending platform) have raised the potential of the project. Given that the current installation covers 1/5 of the area, there is the potential to build an even 5 times higher solar production.
